The beautiful Jennifer Lopez is covering the latest issue of Vanity Fair and she’s talking about the relationship that is most important to her: the one with herself. I know that sounds a little vain (it is Vanity Fair after all) but if you can’t love yourself, how can you love anybody else? She also expresses how she wants to make sure that she never settles for less than she believes she deserves. She says,
It’s not that I didn’t love myself before. Sometimes we don’t realize that we are compromising ourselves. To understand that a person is not good for you, or that that person is not treating you in the right way, or that he is not doing the right thing for himself – if I stay, then I am not doing the right thing for me. I love myself enough to walk away from that now. Sometimes it doesn’t work – and that’s sad. But I remain an eternal optimist about love. I believe in love.
If you’ve been following the break-up of J Lo and Marc, you know that rumors have been circulating that Marc was controlling in the relationship and would even approve which pictures of J Lo could be released. To me, Jennifer seems like a pretty independent woman and being nailed down by her man like that only stifles her freedom. Sometimes, I think it takes a great deal of courage to just walk away. But what about the future with Marc and more importantly, the kids?
I will always respect Marc as a singer and performer. He will always be in our lives. He will always hold a special place in my heart as the father of my children. [As for me] I am positive, determined to move forward with my life, bring up my babies, and do the best job I can as a mother, entertainer, and person. I now look forward to new challenges. I feel strong.
Jennifer just resigned her contract with American Idol for some serious dollars. I wonder if her insight will change now that she’s a single woman. Will she have a clearer state of mind? Who knows.
