‘Survivor 26’ Premieres, While ‘The Jeff Probst Show’ Torch Gets Snuffed

Last night, Season 26 of Survivor premiered with the “Fans vs. Favorites: 2” theme. With so many strong characters coming back, it looks like it’s going to be a pretty satisfying season… with some eye candy as a bonus! Unfortunately, one of Jeff Probst’s other ventures isn’t doing so well.

“We believe Jeff is an incredible talent, and that he and his dedicated producing team delivered quality episodes throughout the season,” said CBS Television Distribution in a statement. “Unfortunately, the audience isn’t there to support a second year. We are grateful to the entire staff, our affiliate partners and advertisers for their ongoing support of The Jeff Probst Show. Production and broadcast of original episodes will continue through the current season.” Looks like the tribe has spoken, Jeff.

“I’m super bummed but extremely proud,” said Probst. “The truth is all shows come to an end. Ours just ended a decade sooner than we had hoped.”

The talk show world has always been a competitive and with four major talk shows that premiered this past September (Probst being one of them), there wasn’t enough viewership for them all. Ricki Lake was canceled last week and outside of that, Katie also premiered (starring Katie Couric) and that will be returning for a second season.

As for the current season of Survivor, what do you think so far? I’m loving the mix and looking forward to seeing how it unfolds. Vote for your favorite Survivor or who you’re rooting for below.
