Even without the benefit of a single press interview leading up to its release, or a radio hit for that matter, Janet Jackson scored her seventh No. 1 album of her storied career. Unbreakable tops the Billboard Top 200 chart by moving 109,000 in pure album sales and 116,000 total during its first week.
Even more impressive is the fact Janet did it all independently and without the support of a major record label behind her. She released it on her own Rhythm Nation label through BMG. Learn below what amazing accomplishments she’s achieved with her latest feat.
The 49-year-old singer becomes only the third act in history to score a No. 1 album in the last four decades. Barbra Streisand and Bruce Springsteen also landed on top of the charts in the 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s.
Among women with the most No. 1 albums under their belt, JJ now ranks as the third-highest leader of all-time. Streisand leads the pack with ten with Madonna following closely behind with eight.
Congrats to Janet for her latest achievement. I’m still optimistic that Jackson can stage a comeback on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Fingers crossed the Missy Elliott-assisted “BURNITUP!” catches on fire. Weigh in below.
