Deadline reports a daytime talk show is being developed for Jane Lynch. Here’s the kicker. Warner Bros.’ syndication production arm Telepictures, is the one producing it. They also produce The Ellen DeGeneres Show, along with other daytime fare like The Real, TMZ, Extra and The People’s Court.
Unlike most daytime talk shows though, the 57-year-old former Glee star’s show won’t be a venue for celebrity interviews. Instead, it’ll be a “feel-good variety show” featuring Jane’s thoughts on pop cultural events, along with “unique, uplifting stories.” It’s being eyed for a fall 2018 premiere.
The daytime market is a very competitive one. Very few new shows last more than a couple years. Just ask Meredith Veira, Anderson Cooper, Bethenny Frankel, Katie Couric and numerous others who tried and failed. Even Megyn Kelly, who arrived with much hype and fanfare, is struggling big time.
If anyone can succeed though, it’s Lynch. She’s won two best reality host Emmy Awards for emceeing NBC’s Hollywood Game Night. In addition, she’s only one of three women to ever host the Primetime Emmy Awards solo.
