After hosting last year’s Academy Awards, James Franco has been relatively missing from theaters with exception to a couple of limited released flicks. That’s all about to change in 2013. The 34-year-old actor has a slew of movies scheduled this year including two in the coming weeks- Oz the Great and Powerful and Spring Breakers. With such a heavy load of movies to promote, expect Franco to appear in numerous publications up until the clock strikes midnight on New Years Eve.

James graces the latest issue of Details. Photographed by in-house staffer Mark Seliger, Franco looks white hot in white denim hanging out at the beach. Inside the issue, the Oscar-nominated actor talks about a wide array of topics including dealing with negative criticism, his career direction and most notably, rumors about his homosexuality. Check out a few photos and excerpts from his feature in the March 2013 issue of Details.

On Negative Criticism

“All you have is what you work on and how hard you work on it. As far as the results or the reception, it’s out of your hands. That’s something I really had to come to understand.”

On Homosexuality Rumors

“One of my professors at Yale… had been a 19th-century- literature scholar. But as soon as he brought his queer life into that world, it gave him this energy and a realization: It wasn’t about being gay but about being different. And that gave me a feeling of enormous permission.”

On Taking On Different Careers

“I’d become incredibly frustrated staying in the lines of my job description as an actor. I was making it hard, not only on everyone else, but on myself as well.”

On His Character In Spring Breakers

“Alien is what happens if we get all our wishes: unrestrained consumerism, ego, id, sex…”
