Clearly, there are not a lot of people suffering with coulrophobia (fear of clowns) out there. The first teaser trailer for the upcoming IT reboot shattered the record for most views in a 24-hour period. Pennywise appears to be more popular than Belle, Vin Diesel, Jamie Dornan’s kinky ways or those folks in a galaxy far, far away.
The creepy first look at the big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s horror classic scared up 197 million views in a single day. That sped past the previous record holder, The Fate of the Furious, leaving it and its previous benchmark of 139 million views in the dust. On Facebook alone, IT earned more than 81 million views. 36 hours in, it’s already reached 246 million.
Prior to the racing franchise, Beauty and the Beast held the record with 127.6 million views. Before that, Fifty Shades Darker and Star Wars: The Force Awakens held the title with 114 million views and 112 million views respectively when they first released trailers.
Warner Bros. should feel bullish about the film’s potential box office take. Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Beauty and the Beast both set records on their opening weekends. The Fate of the Furious also seems primed to wreak havoc. The only exception being Fifty Shades Darker which faltered, compared to the first installment’s take.
Are you surprised by all the views? I am and didn’t think so many people were interested in this adaptation, but what do I know 😉 Check out the trailer below, if you haven’t already done so.
