If you think this is wishful thinking on his part, it’s actually not that far-fetched. Andy Muschietti directed Jessica Chastain in the supernatural horror film, Mama, based on his 2008 Argentine short film Mamá. A reunion could actually happen, if the stars align, and more importantly, the price is right.
During an interview with Variety, Andy and his sister, Barbara Muschietti who co-produced IT, dished about their blockbuster horror film. The most interesting, without a doubt, was when the topic switched to the sequel, specifically casting the adult versions of the Losers.
When the interviewer talked about the resemblance between Sophia Lillis, who plays Beverly in IT, and Chastain, Andy replied, “I don’t know, does she? [Laughs] Jessi is an amazing actress and very good friend and I would love her to play Beverly.” He added, “Yeah, she loves the movie and it feels like the planets are aligned in that sense, but we still have to make that happen. There are a lot of ideas for the rest of the cast that I’m playing with, but it’s a bit too premature to say those names right now.”
For fans of the breakout child actors, fear not. They’ll also appear in Part 2, via a series of flashbacks. The adult versions of the characters must retrieve their memories to figure out clues to defeat Pennywise. Production better hurry up, because these kids are growing up fast in real life. One of them might undergo a huge growth spurt soon.
What do you think of Chastain playing a grownup Beverly? Any suggestions for the other kids. I stumbled upon a few solid suggestions including Bill Hader playing Richie (Finn Wolfhard), Chris Pratt tackling Jeremy (Ben Hanscom) and Elijah Wood taking on Jack (Eddie Kaspbrak).
