The highly anticipated reveal by master marketer, Steve Jobs of the Apple Tablet occurred today at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, with a live feed on the internet of the presentation.
Jobs explains that the tablet is half an inch thick,1.5 pounds, with a 9.7-inch screen. The iPad has about 10 hours of battery life. It has “multi-touch input” (you can use more than one finger on the screen at the time) Some other features include: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, speakers, an accelerometer (device that measures proper acceleration) and a compass. The price starts at $499 and goes up to $999 (depending on amount of GBs). Amazing! It’s got everything your regular Mac computer has, but much more- with revamped iWork applications as well. The company has worked out a deal with AT&T at $14.99 for 250 MB or $29.99 for unlimited usage, with no contract. And, AT&T has also has offered their WI-FI spots free too. International deals have yet to be worked out, expected in June. Same thing that happened with the iPhone – we didn’t them here in Canada until way after the US!

I was watching CTV news earlier this morning where they had polled viewers as to whether or not they’d buy the tablet (prior to the reveal and knowing anything about it) and 16% said yes, while a whopping 84% said no. Hmm, I don’t think that it’s a representation of the sales this puppy’s gonna have. It’s pretty freaking cool. A few weeks ago, they sold their 250 millionth iPod and they now have 284 retail stores and last quarter had over 50 million visitors.
Honestly, I didn’t think that I would want one when I first heard of a touch screen computer a few years back. Now…I want one for sure. It’s SO futuristic and I don’t know if I will ever get sick of the innovative, sexy products that Apple comes out with. “Expect a whole new generation of apps that will be designed specifically for the iPad.”
One of the coolest things is the dock – the dock is a combined dock that charges the tablet, as well as the keyboard! Fantastic!

Yeah, the 16% saying yes / 84% saying no isn’t too much of a surprise. Technology is like that – there’s always a group of pioneers who are ready to grab what’s new, and then a group that waits a bit to see how it works, then another group that waits for the 2nd generation and price drops… and then a smaler group that never buys it.
I think you’re right – the iPad will sell!

My understanding of the product, is that they are hoping to give publications a boost with this….I think people will be using to download books and read them off of that, as well as newspapers and magazines, that way it is portable with you. I believe that Apple was watching a lot of Star Trek because alot of their ideas have come from that show, just 300 years sooner! I can’t wait for Apple to take us to other planets ; )

Yes, there will be those people who will always get new tech items first, but that’s not the case with the iPad per se. That would be the case with items such as the PS3 with new blu-ray technology, for example. The iPad isn’t necessarily new technology since Apple is merging technology from their different products. The 16/84 poll to me does not represent a clear picture of what the consumer base will really be for Apple. Why? Well, how many younger Canadians – let’s be real – actually watch news, IN the morning, ON CTV? Yes, I believe that the iPad will catch on later as it becomes more mainstream, but I also believe that the % of Canadians that will actually buy an iPad is higher than 16%, especially considering how damn cheap the thing is.

Hi Patrick, longtime reader first time commenter. I believe there are no cameras on this device. And the top end of the price spectrum is $829.00. Otherwise love the article, Cheers!
