Just when I was ready to count her out, Iggy Azalea comes firing back with a true comeback single. If this doesn’t propel her back to the upper echelon of the Billboard Hot 100, nothing ever will. This is a serious bop with massive potential.
After the massive success of “Fancy” and “Black Widow,” things went downhill fast for the Australian rapper. Nothing she was releasing was sticking. She was pretty much persona non grata in the music world.
Promotion for her sophomore album stalled when the lead cut “Team” barely made an impression on radio and on the charts. More false starts contributed to its delayed. The 26-year-old took some time off to regroup and think of a new strategy for Digital Distortion.
Iggy started things up again earlier this year with “Mo Bounce.” Despite being a solid effort, she was still getting no love. “Switch” will no doubt turn things around for her. It’s her most radio-friendly single in years.
The sassy track is surprisingly good and the hook extremely catchy. Given that her biggest successes have always included a featured artist, she employed that strategy again.
