Just months before the Games, Harding’s ex-husband Jeff Gillooly and one of her bodyguards hired someone to break Kerrigan’s legs. Who could forget Kerrigan’s “Why, why why?” agonizing cry after the attack? Due to her involvement, Tonya was banned from the U.S. Figure Skating Association for life. Kerrigan ended up winning a silver medal at the Lillehammer Games while Harding placed a dismal eighth place.
The sensational story is the subject of an upcoming movie titled I, Tonya. Margot Robbie is playing the titular character in the Craig Gillespie-directed film. Caitlin Carver (Paper Towns) has been cast as Harding’s rival Kerrigan. The 24-year-old Alabama native recently appeared in Warren Beatty’s film Rules Don’t Apply and on the TV series NCIS and Timeless.
The ensemble cast also includes Sebastian Stan, Allison Janney, Paul Walter, and Julianne Nicholson. No release date has been set yet but you can check out a few pics from the set below in the meantime. It’s amazing how the stunning Robbie has transformed into the notorious skater. The wonders of movie magic 😉
