A Dragon Trains The Box Office

I guess Paramount/Dreamworks trained enough theater goers to watch its 3D animated flick, “How To Train Your Dragon”. Looks like Homorazzi’s Tommy D wasn’t the only one who was enamored by the movie. The Dreamworks Animation Dragon, conjured up over $30 million in box office receipts for a scorching $10,678 average per location. It was the eighth biggest opening ever for the month of March.

Relinquishing her crown for top spot, Alice and her crew settled for runner-up status. The box office hit still grossed over $17 million in its fourth week in release. With “Alice in Wonderland”, “How To Train Your Dragon” and “Avatar” dominating the box office, it looks like the 3D fad isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Next weekend, another 3D movie, “Clash of the Titans”, enters theaters hoping to take a piece of the pie.

In a bit of a surprise, Jennifer Aniston’s romantic comedy held up pretty well in its sophomore session, dropping only 40% to an estimated $12.4 million. At this rate, the Sony film will finish with a respectable $65-70 million run. Not bad considering the numerous horrible reviews it earned. It seems that I wasn’t the only one who ignored those reviews and recommended the movie.

The other new film to hit multiplexes this week was the cleverly titled, “Hot Tub Time Machine”. The adult comedy landed in third spot and whipped up over $13 million.
