Now, you might be saying: “Adam, I’ve known how to do this for a year… you’re an idiot.” But, I was just informed of this little gem function and figured there must be at least SOMEONE out there who this might have not heard of this yet.
While at a recent dinner with the straights, it came up that a friend of mine wanted me to pose for a shot with his iPhone so he could: “Have picture of me pop up when I called,” to which I replied: “Sure, actually, if we have time I want to get a pic of everyone…” At this point our tech friend Brodie held back a laugh and asked why we didn’t just sync our contacts with our Facebook app. What… The… Frig… Who the hell knew you could do that? Apparently, for a WHILE now us iPhone users who also take part in the Facebook app (and really, who doesn’t), have been able to follow a few quick steps and from there-on-in have up to date (according to our friends’ profile pics) photos every time we send a call or receive one.
SO, for those out there who don’t know, all you need do is click on the Facebook app. Go to the main screen and click on “Friends” in the top right corner. Then, click on “Sync” which will appear in the top right corner. Then, swipe “Syncing” over to ON and BAM: the pics from your friends’ profiles will be associated with your contacts forevermore. I checked it out- before you ask- and you your friends needn’t have posted their number on their FB profile for it to sync up, it seems all that connects it is the name. If you already have a pic associated with a friend’s contact you don’t want to forgo you also have the option to save the pre-elected pic as oppose to defaulting to their profile pic.
It’s simple, it’s easy… it’s kind of ridiculous I’ve never heard of it before. It’s a HUGE time saver and now you needn’t fill up your photos with ridiculous, poorly lit iPhone snaps taken at assuredly the drunkest of moments. Maybe this is completely redundant to you all, but if I can “affect the life of even one homo, I’ll have done my job” ;) Somehow I doubt that quotation was at all meant for this situation, but oh well ha.

one crappy thing about this is that all the pictures that get synced are really crappy low quality, so when someone calls in its just a small square showing whos calling.. I guess they do it to save space? idunno

ro: hopefully something to be fixed with the next facebook mobile update… that app started out hella buggy but has constantly been making edits to itself and improving leaps and bounds with every new version. Would be cool to have a full resolution and nice sized contact pic soon!
It seems the way it works (if you look at your contacts after you turn this setting on) is that it provides a link in the individual’s contact info to the site location of the profile pic so hopefully they can better the quality easily enough. For now, it’s fun to have updated pics of friends without having to work too much to get em’.

Another crappy thing about this is that it sends the information in your phone about your friends (name, e-mail address, and phone number) to Facebook in order sync up. So, Adam, if you’ve done this, is it safe to assume that Facebook now has all your friends’ phone numbers and e-mail addresses?

Colby: I’ve kind of accepted the fact that facebook owns me in all ways… The day they call up one of my friends and try to sell them lube because they were in my contact info is the day they pay a gillion dollars in lawsuits so not totally worried about that aspect of it. Personally, i don’t have anyone’s email in my phone.. that’s what my off-server gmail is for :P
It’s lame that they assume access to all our info, but i’ve accepted that’s todays world ha.

Was just about to do this but did anyone read what you agree to when you sync your facebook with your iPhone??…
Here
“If you enable this feature, ALL contacts from your device (name, email address, PHONE number) will be sent to Facebook…”
So I am reading that as giving away anyone that is on my contact list. Whether or not they are on facebook. What a huge invasion of privacy of people who choose not to be part of Facebook.
nice idea, but insidious really in how they are collecting information.
