If you like your accommodations chic and sophisticated with a bit of an edge, then the Hotel on Rivington is for you. Located in the heart of the historic Lower East Side (LES), the Rivington is for the discerning traveler who likes the comfort and amenities of a top notch hotel but located in an eclectic neighborhood. The glass tower with its floor-to-ceiling windows soars above the historic LES landmarks, providing a great visual contrast and fantastic views.

During my East Coast trip this summer, Brian, Nic and myself traveled from Washington DC and Miami with a quick pit stop in New York City. On the first night we stayed right in the heart of all the action near Times Square. Since we’ve all been to the Big Apple previously, sightseeing wasn’t the main priority of the trip. Instead we wanted to enjoy the sights and sounds of the city. We decided to check out the Hotel on Rivington due to its location and recommendation from a friend. Plus they were holding a penthouse party the following week during NY Pride. Obviously, we had to go and investigate the premises before the event.

What we found was a warm and inviting hotel, with an equally welcoming staff. From the minute we checked in, we were treated like the kings, or should I say queens 😉 that we are. LOL. Seriously though, the staff couldn’t have been any friendlier. Whether it was recommendations for nearby haunts to requested items to our room, they never let us down. Soho, Tribeca, Little Italy, Chinatown and Greenwich Village are all within walking distance. Plus a couple of Metro stations are mere steps away, taking you anywhere in NYC.

You’re probably wondering about the rooms. Sufficed to say, after a busy day shopping and hard night partying, resting our heads on their premium Tempur-Pedic beds, complimented with their high-thread count linens was pure bliss. Adding even more comfort and relaxation was their deep-soaking tubs and steam showers. The fact you can shower while having an unobstructed view of the city was exhilarating. Here you are washing your naughty bits while overlooking all the action below. It was wicked.

If you’re not in the mood to venture too far from the hotel, the Rivington boasts a couple of fine options for food and cocktails. CO-OP Food & Drink is a modern American brasserie while CO-OP Sushi Bar and CO-OP Lounge offer guests great food in a contemporary setting. If you’re there at the right time, the penthouse sometimes host summertime parties, including an outdoor hot tub. The view from up there is breathtaking.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I highly recommend the Hotel on Rivington. It’s a nice change of pace from the hotel chains in NYC. While not the best location if your main goal is to see popular attractions such as Central Park, Times Square etc…, it is walking distance to several vibrant neighborhoods. And as mentioned before, the subway is mere steps away. Each room has flat screen TV’s, iHome / iPod stereo systems and complimentary WiFi. Some even have balconies so you can step outside and breath in that fresh New York air 😉 Did I mention, the pool table area has complimentary coffee and wine depending on what time of day. Amazing, right? Some parts of the hotel show their wear and tear, but the comfortable sleep you’ll get will make up for it.
