Henry Cavill Is The Next Man In Tights

Super hottie from the hit show The Tudors, Henry Cavill is up to don the red cape and blue tights in director Zach Snyder’s newest film. Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures confirmed the casting this morning and honestly, I couldn’t be more excited. Here is what Zach said in the official studio press release about the film and casting Henry.

“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and ‘S’ shield.”

Henry was actually up for the Superman role previously on the film Superman Returns when McG was to direct. However, Bryan Singer took over the project and he re-cast the role making Brandon Routh the it man in the shield.

Cavill has a few films coming out this year. The first is Greek warrior Theseus in the film Immortals and the second is The Cold Light of Day starring opposite Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver.

Are you excited to see Henry in the Superman attire?

I am so happy for him! He has always been the “ideal” candidate for the role and I remember reading in an article from a magazine that pegged him as the “unluckiest actor” due to him losing key roles. He’s perfect for the role. 🙂

So happy when I read this news! It took a long time for him to get the big/high-profile roles, but they’re coming now. Good for Henry! 😀

@Tony N. – yeah, he was in the running to be the new Batman and James Bond too. Those of course went to Christian Bale and Daniel Craig, but that’s fine because this role seems to fit Henry so much better! I read rumors that Henry was Stephenie Meyer’s first choice to be Edward Cullen too, but when the project kicked off, he was already too old to play him.
