Helena Bonham Carter was reportedly in the mix to take over for Claire Foy to play Queen Elizabeth II for Seasons 3 and 4. Ultimately, Olivia Colman (Broadchurch) snagged the coveted role. However, it appears that Carter is joining the Netflix series after all.
The 43-year-old actress is reportedly near a deal to play Princess Margaret in the royal drama. Vanessa Kirby played Queen Elizabeth II’s sister in the first two seasons. Since Season 3 will take place from 1957-1964 the series is recasting all the parts with older actors to reflect their ages during that timeframe.
“I’m just so excited about whoever gets to do it because they’ve definitely got the coolest stuff coming up. Bring on the drama! I would have loved to have done it. I absolutely love to do all the blazing rows and getting drunk and just all of it. But I suppose I was lucky enough to have two seasons, so I could be more grateful, really,” Vanessa told the Hollywood Reporter.
