Spike officially becomes the Paramount Network today in an effort to differentiate the network and widen its audience from its testosterone-driven shows. With that being said, popular programs like Lip Sync Battle will remain but will air alongside more advertiser-friendly fare like the Heathers television adapation.
Heathers is an hour-long pitch-black comedy anthology set in the present day, based on the 1988 cult classic film of the same name. The much-anticipated reboot perfectly blends drama, love, rivalry, and comedy into a modern-day masterpiece. It stars Grace Victoria Cox as Veronica Sawyer, James Scully as JD, Melanie Field as Heather Chandler, Brendan Scannell as Heather Duke, and Jasmine Mathews as Heather McNamara. Selma Blair, Drew Droege and original Heather Shannen Doherty also makes appearances.
The new network just released a red band trailer and it’s hilarious. Since a Heathers reboot has been in the works for years and several networks including FOX and Bravo have tried, I wasn’t expecting much. Boy was I wrong. This looks fantastic. The mean girls are meaner, bitchier and surprisingly more diverse than ever. Heather Chandler is a body-positive HBIC while Heather “Heath” Duke is gender non-binary.
Heathers premieres on March 7. Check out the trailer below.
