This weekend, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters took the top spot at the box office with an estimated opening of $19 million. Personally, I’m surprised it did that well because I wasn’t too into the concept of the movie, but I know many people felt the opposite. The 3D action-horror film that stars Jeremy Renner (The Avengers) and Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace) was one of three new films that opened in theaters this weekend.
In a distant fifth place, Jason Statham & Jennifer Lopez‘s Parker film brought in an estimated $5 million. The film premiered in 2,224 theaters but clearly just didn’t have what the audience was looking for this weekend. Movie 43 did even worse bringing in an estimated $5 million in its opening weekend. The star-studded compilation of raunchy short films failed to lure in audiences, despite it’s long list of A-list actors involved.
