Halsey achieved respectable sales for her well-reviewed debut album, Badlands, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200. After the astronomical success of her Chainsmokers collaboration, “Closer,” expectations are high for her sophomore LP, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, out June 2, 2017.
The lead cut, “Now Or Never,” was produced by Cashmere Cat, Benny Blanco and Happy Perez. For the accompanying visual, the 22-year-old singer headed down south to Mexico City to film. The violent clip tells the tale of star-crossed lovers.
“[It] is one part in the center of a long narrative that tells the story of two people in love despite the forces trying to keep them apart,” she says in a statement. “On its own, the song is about two impatient young lovers, but in the context of the Hopeless Fountain Kingdom universe, the stakes are much higher for these two star-crossed lovers.”
Halsey co-directed the video with Sing J Lee. If you love the blue hair on Halsey, don’t get used to it. She chops it off at the end of the clip. Watch it below to find out why.
