Is There An LGBT+ Character/Subplot In Guardians Of The Galaxy?

If we’re to believe James Gunn, then the answer is yes.

During the premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the director was asked if he considered featuring a gay protagonist in the franchise. “Absolutely. I would love to be able to,” he told the Press Association. He coyly added, “We might have already done that. I say watch the movie. Check it out. See what you think.”

Being that it’s partly a Disney film, I’d say the chances he’s telling the truth are pretty good. The studio’s live-action Beauty and the Beast film had an exclusively gay moment with Josh Gad’s character LeFou, much to the ire of conservatives.

Power Rangers recently made history as the first film to feature an openly LGBT+ superhero. Pop star Becky G’s character, Yellow Ranger Trini Kwan, is shown struggling to accept that she’s attracted to other women.

Do you think Gunn is telling the truth or simply creating hype for the action film? Either way, the sequel should be a fun watch. The early buzz from those who’ve watched screenings have raved about film. Do you plan on watching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2? The film arrives May 5. Sound off below.
