Thank God Robin Antin finally gave up her ridiculous goal to relaunch the Pussycat Dolls with new members. Ever since Nicole Scherzinger and the original girls left, there have been a rotating of wannabe dolls stepping in doing promotional photos but never releasing any music. There were so many different lineups, I lost track. Lauren Bennett (Paradiso Girls), Simone Battle (The X Factor US Season 1), Paula Van Oppen (So You Think You Can Dance), Natasha Slayton and Emmalyn Estrada were the last five girls rumored to be dubbed the new Pussycat Dolls. Antin has rebranded them as G.R.L., labeling them the “next generation” of the Dolls.
The new girl group recently unveiled their debut single “Vacation” which Patrick wrote about earlier in the week. Even though it’s written and produced by recording industry power players Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Bonnie McKee and Henry Walter, I’m not sure if it’s going to be an accurate gauge of what their debut album will sound like. “Vacation” is for the upcoming kids movie Smurfs 2 and is understandably young and a tad generic.
With that being said, I think the girls have potential. For the most part, I like all the members. Hopefully Antin has learned her lesson and won’t pick one girl as the star, leaving the others as glorified backup singers. We all know how that turned out for PCD. “Vacation” is an extra gift with purchase if you buy Britney’s contribution to the soundtrack on iTunes. Just in case you missed Patrick’s post, I thought I’d give my two cents on the next generation of Dolls.
