During the first few moments of Grease, we’re entertained with “Summer Nights” explaining how John Travolta’s Danny Zuko and Olivia Newton-John’s Sandy Olsson met over the summer. But as with most things, it becomes a he-said/she-said scenario. Exactly what went down? Soon, we’ll find out in detail.
Paramount is developing a Grease prequel tentatively titled Summer Nights. The studio has tapped veteran writer John August (Big Fish and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) to pen the script. Other than it’s a prequel centering around Danny and Sandy’s first meeting, no other details have been disclosed.
Released first in 1978, Grease has remained popular over the decades. A sequel was made a few years later starring Michelle Pfeiffer. In 2016, FOX staged a live adaptation starring Julianne Hough and Vanessa Hudgens which was a ratings hit and scored five Emmy wins.
Definitely interested in this if done right. Fingers crossed Paramount doesn’t eff it up. Would you watch a Grease prequel? Relive the iconic number below.
