Hello, Upper East Siders. Looks like two characters won’t be receiving invites to return next year. Gossip Girl herself might never tell, but I will. For Gossip Girl’s fifth season, the producers are shaking things up. Two series regulars who’ve been with the show since Season 1 aren’t coming back full-time. Not surprising, Taylor Momsen (Jenny Humphrey) is one of the two casualties. She’s only appeared in a handful of episodes this year despite being a series regular. While the showrunners claim it’s due to the organic nature of the story and nothing else, there was early speculation Taylor’s off-set antics were responsible for her limited screen time.
The second actress given the heave-ho is Jessica Szohr who plays “wham, bam, thank you ma’am” Vanessa Abrams. Seriously, whenever any of the guys hook up with her, they discard her faster than yesterday’s newspaper. After joining forces with Jenny and Juliet to drug Serena this year, she’s been on the outs with everyone on the show. A few episodes ago, Vanessa revealed that she’d be studying abroad next season. Maybe Hilary Duff and her can participate in threeways all across Europe. Though both Szohr and Momsen won’t be regulars for Season 5, they’ve already been invited back to guest star next season. Probably to stir up trouble, as per usual.
With two leaving all the drama, the show is promoting one of this season’s recurring stars to series regular. Will it be Kaylee DeFer who plays Serena’s cousin Charlie Rhodes or Tika Sumpter’s Raina Thorpe? Drumroll please. The lucky girl receiving an extended stay is cray cray single white female Charlie Rhodes.
Ugh. Aren’t we tired of the out-of-town crazy cousin storyline yet? Obviously, there is more than meets the eye with DeFer’s character. I’m mildly interested, but could care less. I’m bored with her already. Is it me or has this season sucked hardcore? The best part of the year was Dan and Blair’s potential romance. I really hope the writers find a way for that couple to work out. Team DAIR all the way.

FINALLY! I’m so glad they’re getting rid off the boring characters!! I don’t care much about Jenny but Vanessa is just a terrible character. Kind of sucks that Charlie will become a regular though, I’m already annoyed with her character. They should have brought two completely new characters!!

I loved Taylor Momsen in the previous seasons. Her role as Jenny Humphrey was a great one. She stirred up so much trouble and I loved that. It’s sad to see her go.

not surprised that jenny and vanessa are being written out since they have both in different times been ‘away’ so much already…i love jessica sczohr and think she adds a good element to the show but i do hate seeing her repeatedly, like sort of mentioned in this blog, to play the girl who sort of gets the outsider treatment and the wrong end of the stick constantly.
as for tika sumpter not being a series regular over the other girl…that sucks. she is such a talented actress and i do agree with the previous poster, it was good to finally see diversity, and seeing her portray this confident sexy professional role was great. hope she’s not killed off and is at least an occasional guest like georgina, in season 5.
anyways, still love this show–as long as leighton meester, blake lively, and ed westwick continue with the show-itll be good.
oh, and, im actually glad to see the dan and blaire thing didnt develop more…it would take away a big part of what their ‘characters’ are known for…and besides they have no chemistry…well dans character has always annoyed me.

one more thing….jack (desmond harrington), is so sexy-always love it when he ‘shows up’…would love to see him more too.

I like Jenny too. She did cause some good trouble. She played the perfect disgruntle-I-am-so-better-then-you teen.
Im tired of the chuck and Blair story line – make Blair a princess.
The best thing might to re-vamp the whole cast a-la Skins the UK version.

You know what would make Season 5 interesting? Serena and Blair finally falling in love with each other. Heck, even von Ziegesar wasn’t courageous enough to take their relationship to the next level in the books, beyond some drunken makeout sessions in a hot tub in high school. Maybe the series will grow up once they realize that what they need is each other, not all their wild success dreams, and not the men who damage them.

i want georgina and juliet to be a series regular.
i want nate to turn gay cause he’s boring, and i want him to have a love triangle story with eric. or dan turns gay. the serena-dan-nate love triangle is so boring, that has been their story line since season 1.
what’s also a boring love story, blair and chuck. it has been there since season 1, theyre on, theyre off, theyre on, then off again. too boring and predictable.
i want serena, blair, juliet & geogina team up and find out who gossip girl is.
i want kristen bell to do lots of cameo, like serena bumps into her into her in the school, or new characters interact with her without knowing she is gossip girl.
get rid of vanessa and jenny. boring.
rufus is also boring, he’s like just walking around. he’s useless. give him a storyline. and i want more of the clash of the upper east side housewives…

I don’t like Charlie character already! jeez.. wth with her, everything about her is wtf moments.. I think it’s her role to be the most hated characters on the show.. thou I hate Chuck character so very much.. and I agree with you, the best thing on the show is only DAIR.. I hope they will go there! For me, DAIR maybe the best thing that ever happened on the show.. I almost thought that DAIR of Peighton might be too good for GG.. well some people do think that way thou.. Bring DAIR ON, GGWriters!

here is the way i want the season 5 series to go
obviosly someone is pregnant and i think it is way to obvious for it to be blair if you watch the final episode again you see nate and serena head off for some reason when they are at constance i think they hooked up like old times and that she is pregnant. when nate and chuck go to visit serena she avoids nate but chuck finds her and explains everything and he later helps her tell nate as her brother he is always there for her.
and on the last episode of season 5 it will be blair’s wedding the whole time when she was planning her wedding her head wasnt in it. she was thinking of chuck and in the mean time chuck is trying to figure out will he go to the wedding considering he still loves blair. as blair is walking down the aisle chuck will come through the chapel doors and stop the wedding they will restart their relationship.
eric is coming out of the wedding to find jonathan standing at the car and they will get back together.
nate and serena will spend a night and decide that they are ready for a real releationship with a happy family.
dan and charlie (ivy) will begin a releationship but since she is a little crazy and notices how happy nate and serena are fakes a pregnancy. dan is ready to be there for charlie 100% but is still insecure because of georgina and milo.
georgina moves back to town with milo pretending to be the way she was when she belived in jesus so she coul minpulate her way into peoples lives.
a week later it will show blair’s finger with a purple dimond ring on it and her and chuck happily engadged jack will show up with a blonde lady and the look on their faces are insecure
the episode will be called the royal pain
the blonde lady to be played by kristen bell (Gossip Girl)

Sad to see Jenny go. I really like her. I never really liked Venessa though. I find Charlie to be kinda dull. shes doesnt even belong there. Literally. But seriously they need to bring Jenny back

I love Charlie!! But I hope they make her happy, and I like her and Nate. They would be cute but then I like him and Blair…hmmm…either way keep Charlie and keep her sassy!
