Will Gregory and Alison Goldfrapp, better known simply as Goldfrapp, unveiled the music video for their first single off their fifth album today. The synth-pop track, “Rocket”, was written the duo and will be available on March 8, 2010. If “Rocket” is any indication of what’s to come forth with their latest album offering, sign me up. According to the band, “Head First” is the

“most powerful trip to date, a speedy rush of synth optimism, euphoria, fantasy and romance. With life affirming lyrics and stellar production it lifts off at full tilt and takes us on a journey to the heart of 2010.”

Goldfrapp’s latest CD,”Head First” will hit stores March 23, 2010 in North America. In the interim, be sure to check out their music video for “Rocket” which was directed by Kim Gehrig. It’s 80s sci-fi meets Xanadu. I absolutely love it and was immediately hooked to the song and video upon first listen. This barely happens as it usually it takes me a couple of listens to really get a feel for a track.

On a side note, it must suck to be the other half of Goldfrapp. Gregory is barely shown in the video while Alison is prominently featured throughout. I guess when the group is named after your last name, you get top billing. I’ll be sure to remember that if and ever I should start a band.

Keeping the campy 80s sci-fi vibe throughout, the CD single cover continues the same theme prevalent in the music video and the album cover.

Don’t you just love the catchy beat of this single? Though Goldfrapp hasn’t had a mainstream release to penetrate and top the Billboard Top 100 chart (“Ohh La La” hit the Dance/Club Play charts), “Rocket” has the potential to do so. All it needs is for a TV show or movie to heavily feature it so it receives massive exposure. The track definitely deserves it.
