On the road to the Oscars, there are a lot of ceremonies, gatherings and publicity obligations celebrities have to attend. While the men can simply recycle the same tuxedo, the women have to be tactful in what they wear and when they wear it. Seriously, I feel so badly for them. Ideally, you want to wear your best dress and peak at the right time. With the Golden Globes being one of the major awards, the ladies bring out the big guns for the show. At the 69th Annual Golden Globes the ladies certainly didn’t disappoint.
Before I reveal my Top 10 looks, I have to quickly give a shout out to the hottest actor at last night’s ceremony. You might be shocked to know it wasn’t Channing Tatum or Jake Gyllenhaal. Instead it was “300” star Gerard Butler who gave me tingles in my special no-no place. Dayum he looked fine with his longer curly locks. YUM and DOUBLE YUM. Now without further ado, here are my picks for the 10 Best Dressed ladies of the night.
It’s a silhouette we’ve seen from Sofia before, but if it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it. The Colombian beauty is the definition of hourglass figure. This Vera Wang peacock mermaid dress hugs her in all the right places. Ariel from “The Little Mermaid” would be totes jellies.
Marriage certainly agrees with the “Legally Blonde” star. The newlywed looked absolutely radiant in this red Zac Posen dress. Loved the tousled post-sex hair. Reese was easy, breezy and beautiful.
This purple and fuchsia combo from Lanvin perfectly complimented Emma’s skin and hair color. Loved the peak-a-boo aspects of the dress. Sexy without being vulgar. I even loved the ostentatious belt buckle. Didn’t it look like something you’d see on the hood of an old school Buick from the 70s?
Years ago Nicole Kidman never had a misstep on the red carpet. In the past few years, this Aussie beauty hasn’t wowed me… until now. The gold studded detail on this Versace dress is stunning. She looks like a bad-ass modern-day Greek goddess. Athena watch out.
The “No More Drama” singer can look a little ghetto-fabulous at times. This time Blige looked simply fabulous in this blush gown with crystal embroidered stretch tulle by Michael Kors. A few women sported a similar bottom, but Mary’s was the best.
Hated the hair, but loved this sparkly green beaded Prada dress. Word has it, the dress was one-of-a-kind. No one else but this adorkable actress could’ve pulled this look off. This year’s “New Girl” definitely made a splashy debut.
In an episode of E!’s “Fashion Police”, the “Modern Family” star poked fun at Lea Michele’s red carpet poses. To add insult to injury, Hyland landed on my Best Dressed List while Lea Michele landed in the Worst. Sarah looked age-appropriately sexy in this nude vintage Dolce & Gabbana lace gown. Word has it Sarah narrowly avoided a nip slip due to a wardrobe malfunction on the red carpet. Her zipper broke but Sarah managed to hold the dress up until someone was able to fix it.
If you can’t decide whether to dress like a peacock or mermaid on the red carpet, here’s the solution. Wood looked like an exotic beauty in this peacock-mermaid hybrid Gucci Premiere gown. The craftsmanship on this dress is inspired. The way the top goes into the scales and then the feathers is amazing.
It may look simple, but this shimmering silver Julien Macdonald dress is breathtaking on television. Loved that she accessorized her look with her own design House of Harlow handbag. You can’t see her hairstyle completely from this angle, but the mod-inspired do was pitch perfect. Isn’t it amazing how vastly different Nicole and her former BFF Paris Hilton’s respective careers have gone since their “Simple Life” days?
Hands down Salma Hayek wins my Best Dressed award. I first caught a glance of Hayek’s dress from the back while NBC was interviewing another actress. Immediately, this shimmery black strapless Gucci gown wowed me. The 45-year-old actress looked gorgeous every moment she appeared on television. She out J.Lo’d, Jennifer Lopez herself from head-to-toe. Salma gave the “On The Floor” singer a run for her money.
Even though they didn’t make my Top 10 list, these three deserve an honorable mention. As always Mila Kunis looked stunning. It’s not a design revelation but this black gown suited her style perfectly.
Not only did Octavia Spencer walk away with an award for “The Help”, but she dazzled on the red carpet. This Tadashi Shoji gown showed off her curves and should be a guide book on how full-figured women should dress like.
I love Michelle Williams and the former Jen Lindley (Dawson’s Creek) can do no wrong in my book. Doesn’t she look like the love child of Julie Andrews and Mia Farrow in this Jason Wu long sleeve dress.
I couldn’t end this post without sharing the sexiness that is Gerard Butler. I’d give anything to taste this Scottish actor’s “haggis” ;)
