Just days after Whitney Houston’s untimely death, “Glee” aired an episode featuring Amber Riley covering Houston’s signature hit, “I Will Always Love You”. Though not intended as a tribute episode, the producers dedicated it to Whitney with a simple message at the end of the show. Considering the impact of Houston’s career and death on the world, “Glee” has decided to dedicate an entire episode featuring eight of the late singer’s hits. No offense “American Idol“, but this is one tribute I’m looking forward to.
“Starting a new episode today. A very special tribute to one of the world’s most amazing singers. Very excited about this one..” – Lea Michele (Twitter)
Sources say the tribute will be different than the series’ previous homages to Michael Jackson, Madonna and Britney Spears. Instead, the show will be more of a “lesson in how to say goodbye.” I can already fell the waterworks coming on. With several of the cast members graduating this year, the show will have Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer’s characters and other seniors struggling with letting go. It will serve as a chance for the “Glee” cast to bid farewell to high school.
Obviously I see the girls tackling on a group number with “I Wanna Dance With Somebody“. It’s too fun of a track to not include. Rumor has it that Klaine are dunzo when “Glee” returns in the Spring. Whit has so many ballads that would be very appropriate, but I’m going out on a limb and predicting Kurt belts out “Where Do Broken Hearts Go“. With Riley doing a stellar job on “I Will Always Love You”, it would be a disservice if she doesn’t get another solo. I hope they give her “I’m Every Woman“. She’s the only one on the cast that do that track any justice. Do you have any predictions on what songs will be included? If so, share them below in the comments section.
Just in case you missed Riley’s awesome cover of “The Bodyguard” track, check it out. It still gives me chills.

…of course they are… because they couldn’t leave it be at the tasteful “card” at the end of the Heart episode. Should have known Ryan Murphy was full of shit when he said they weren’t going to do anymore tribute episodes…

This is exactly like the Micheal episode for me. I mean, I know that singers like this are timeless but other than their deaths, they aren’t really culturally relevant anymore. The musicals, I get, because Rachel is a musical buff and show-tunes are a staple for Glee clubs to learn. But as far as these older artists go, why should a teenager care? By that I mean, how am I going to relate to this? Who or what is going to draw me into the plot line and music? How are they going to make this relatable to the younger audience or even older audiences that where not the classic savvy when they were this young? Do I think it is possible? Sure, there are things they can do to make it work. But if the previous tributes are any indication of Glee’s ability to handle plot lines- Glee has sunk to a new low.

of course they’re doing this mess…when Ryan Murphy said “no more tribute episodes” what he really meant was “more tribute episodes than you’ll know what to do with”. If it were 1996 maybe this would be relevant but Whitney went off everyone’s radar ten years ago
