Gleeks embrace yourselves. Ryan Murphy confirmed Season 6 will be the last for the FOX musical show. The Glee co-creator revealed this during a Paley Center event honoring FX Networks Wednesday night. Murphy was there in support for his other show American Horror Story: Coven. Murphy’s confirmation of the plan to wrap the show after season six appeared to catch Fox and studio 20th Century Fox TV off guard on Thursday morning.

Along with the surprising news, Ryan talked about his original vision for the series finale. Due to the untimely death of Cory Monteith, he had to scratch it. He’s come up with a alternate “good idea” that he’ll present to the studio and network in about a week. Murphy added that the new ending would somewhat be in Monteith’s honor.

“The whole [last] year of the show — which will be next year — was really designed around Rachel-Cory/Finn story. I always knew that. I always knew how it would end,” Murphy revealed. “I knew what the last shot was — he was in it. I knew what the last line was; she said it to him. So when a tragedy like that happens you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do.”
