Season 5 of Girls has yet to premiere but multiple media outlets confirm that Season 6 will be the Brooklyn quartet’s final hoorah.
It should really come as no surprise. After all, Lena Dunham didn’t make her feelings about ending the HBO comedy a secret. She’s stated in multiple interviews that Season 6 would be the perfect time to wrap up Girls.
“It’s really exciting,” Dunham previously told radio host Elvis Duran in Sept. 2015. “I started working on this show when I was 23, and I’m going to be 30, so it kind of feels right that this show kind of sandwiched my 20s and then I go off into the world.”
UPDATE: Dunham confirmed the news. Read her statement below.
“I can’t imagine a more fulfilling creative experience than Girls,” said Dunham in a statement. “The freedom and support that HBO has given Jenni [Konner], Judd, and me is something rare and beautiful. The commitment and originality of our actors has been stunning, and our crew is truly my family.
“I conceived of Girls when I was 23 and now I’m nearly 30 — the show has quite perfectly spanned my 20s, the period of time that it’s about — and so it feels like the right time to wrap our story up. We look forward to creating a sixth season that will honor our amazing cast, crew and fans. And in the Girls universe, nothing ever ends too neatly.”
