Entertainment Weekly reports Jason Reitman has been secretly working on a new Ghostbusters which is set “in the world that was saved decades previously by the proton pack-wearing working stiffs in the original 1984 movie.” It’s sort of a homecoming given Jason is the son of Ivan Reitman who directed the original.
“I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans,” Reitman says. “This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”
No word if the original actors Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, or Bill Murray will return. Sadly, Harold Ramis passed away in 2014.
Ghostbusters 3 is slated to arrive summer 2020. Check out the teaser below which features the iconic Ecto-1. “Finally got the keys to the car,” Reitman joked on Twitter.
