Geri Horner née Halliwell originally planned to release her new single on Friday, June 23 but decided to unleash it a few days early. “Angels In Chains‘ is a charity single that pays tribute to her late friend, George Michael. She began recording it after hearing of Michael’s untimely passing on Christmas Day 2016. It was produced by Chris Porter who worked with Michael numerous times including “Jesus To A Child.”
“When I first heard the sad news of his passing, I was nine months pregnant with my son Monty and I was full of emotions,” Halliwell said in a press release. “I didn’t know quite what to do with my feelings so I put it in a song.”
Proceeds from the single will be donated to Childline, one of George’s favorite charities. Quite fitting since Michael had secretly donated all of the royalties from “Jesus To A Child” to the charity. His generosity was only revealed after his death when Dame Esther Rantzen, founder of the charity ChildLine, made it known.
Check out “Angels In Chains” below. It marks the 44-year-old former Spice Girl’s first single since 2013’s “Half of Me.” Welcome back Geri!
