All the queens are coming back. First Cher returned with her Billboard chart-topper “Woman’s World” and now it’s Geri Halliwell’s turn. The 41-year-old ex-Spice Girl just announced her plans to kickstart her recording career. Her last solo LP titled Desire was released back in 2005. After an eight year hiatus, Ginger Spice promises to return to her pop roots. I can’t wait.
“This is the first time I’ve released a solo record in a long time,” she said. “So there’s a bit of hesitation because you want it to be perfect when you are putting your toe back in the water.”
“Hooray, finally I get to share my music!” the British diva declared. “My new song ‘Half Of Me’ is about love, hope and optimism with a splash of humor — check out verse 2.”
Much like Ricky Martin capitalizing on his Australian Voice stint bringing him back to relevancy, Halliwell is doing the same with her Australia’s Got Talent gig. She recently signed with Sony Music Australia and teamed up with Aussie hitmakers DNA for an upbeat new track titled “Half of Me.” It won’t be available until October 25, but she’ll perform it for the first time on The Footy Show on October 3.
While we wait for what will undoubtedly be a supremely gay campy pop gem, check out my three favorite tracks from Geri below. Be sure to weigh in afterward on your favorites.
