George Michael Dead At 53: His Best 10 Songs

Absolutely shocked is all I have to say. That best describes my reaction as I learned about his death on Christmas Day. Throughout his career, which spanned three decades, he sold more than 100 million albums worldwide. The world has lost another music legend.

George Michael passed away at the age of 53 on December 25. Reportedly, the cause of death was heart failure. His publicist confirmed the sad news to BBC with the following statement.

“It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period. The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.”

Born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, Michael shot to fame in the ’80s as one half of Wham scoring hits with “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go,” “Careless Whispers,” “Everything She Wants” and the modern holiday classic “Last Christmas.” When he pursued a solo career, he garnered even more success. George’s debut solo album, Faith sold over 25 million copies worldwide, spawned six top five hits and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1989.

Michael publicly came out as gay after being arrested for “lewd behavior” in Beverly Hills in 1998. He infamously parodied that public restroom scandal with his “Outside” music video.

It’s impossible to pick favorites from his extensive catalog, but I picked my ten favorites. Check them out below and weigh in on which ones are your favorite.
