Update: Gary Coleman passed away today. TMZ has reported that Gary’s wife, Shannon, made the decision to pull life support early this AM. He died at 12:05 PM MST of a intracranial hemorrhage.

The 42 year old former Diff’rent Strokes star was injured in his home earlier this week (fell and hit his head) and things have taken a turn for the worse. Coleman was hospitalized a few days ago, but after suffering from intercranial hemorrhages, he has slipped into a coma and is now on life support.

The manager, John Alcantar, of the hospital where he is being treated has released the following update:

“As of mid-morning on May 27, Mr. Coleman was conscious and lucid. By early afternoon, Mr. Coleman was slipping in and out of consciousness and his condition worsened.

We are saddened to announce that since mid-afternoon, Mountain Time, on May 27, 2010, Mr. Coleman has been unconscious and on life support.

At this critical moment, we can only ask for your thoughts and prayers for Gary to make a speedy and full recovery.”

Coleman’s always had to keep an eye on his health. He has a congenital kidney disease “caused by focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (an autoimmune destruction and alteration of the kidney), which halted his growth at an early age, leading to a small stature (4 ft 8 in; 1.42 m),” as stated by Wiki.

The last time he was heavily talked about in the media was in 1998 when he punched a woman and was charged with assault. He had been working as a security guard and a bus driver and was shopping for a bulletproof vest when the woman approached him and asked for his autograph. They started arguing about the autograph, and when she took a hit at his “has been” career, he punched her in the face. He received a suspended sentence and was ordered to pay Tracy Fields (the woman he hit) $1,665 for hospital bills.

Hopefully, he makes a full recovery!
