In honor of Transgender Awareness Week, Entertainment Weekly shares the first look at Ryan Murphy’s highly-anticipated new series, Pose. Pictured in the photo above from left to right are Hailie Sahar, Indya Moore, Dominique Jackson, Angelica Ross, and M.J. Rodriguez.
Murphy’s new FX series made headlines last month for assembling the largest transgender cast of series regulars ever. Set in 1986, Pose examines the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York City: the emergence of the luxury Trump-era universe, the downtown social and literary scene and the ball culture world.
“We are thrilled that Pose pushes the narrative forward by centering on the unique and under-told experiences of trans women and gay people of color,” says Steven Canals. “Ryan has assembled a strong team of storytellers and innovators to collaborate on telling this important narrative. As a Bronx-bred queer writer of color, I’m honored to aid in ushering this groundbreaking show into homes.”
Also starring in the series are Dawson’s Creek alum James Van Der Beek, Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany, House of Card’s Kate Mara, Murphy mainstay Evan Peters, Kinky Boots star Billy Porter, Ryan Jamaal Swain and Dyllon Burnside.
Murphy co-created the show with frequent collaborator Brad Falchuk and up-and-coming writer Steven Canals who Murphy discovered. The pilot of Pose began production this month in New York City. A 2018 premiere date is in sight.
