Free Fall Is The German Answer To Brokeback Mountain

At least that’s what the trailer is heralding the film as. Instead of cowboys played by Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenahaal, the two having a secret torrid affair are two cops in the form of Hanno Koffler and Max Riemelt. Hot and hot. On a side note, why are the occupations in these films never garbage men, accountants, butchers, hairdressers or something not so cliche?

Free Fall is Stephan Lacant’s first feature film. It tells the story of Marc who has a promising career and a baby on the way. When he meets a fellow policeman named Kay, he experiences a sense of ease and effortlessness he’s never felt before. Torn between his family and his new feelings for Kay, Marc sees his world careening more and more out of control. I’m sure all the hot gay sex is helping ease the inner turmoil.

Free Fall is currently on the indie film festival circuit and will be available digital and DVD in 2014 from Wolfe Video. Check out the trailer below.

The German answer to Brokeback Mountain? *rolls eyes*

  • RFD

    Looks very good.

I am really tired of gay movies having a depressing undertone. No interest at all in this (or Brokeback for that matter.)

Where are the gay movies where the man isn’t the suicidal romeo, or the jazz hands Jack (I do love me some jazz hands BTW.) I want some middle ground average gay rom-com – something that I can say is more like my own life sitution.

Yeah there are a lot of drama gay themed movies. So it does make it a little depressing. But putting this out there is a reflection of the sorrow and turmoil some people have to live with.

I saw it over the summer at QFest in Philly. It’s a great movie. It wasn’t my favorite but it was in my Top 3. It actually won the Jury award for best feature.

  • Felipe Brussel

The sad part of this movie is that they could have done a much better ending…for the rest I really enjoyed the film

  • MeMe

True, something similar with garbagemen would be hot. Especially if set in NY.

  • Andre

When I first saw this movie I was “ok, this is different”, but when I thought about it, the gay relationship here is downright bizarre. I don’t want to spoil anything so I have to keep it vague but I would say that this is rather sexual herassment gone lucky for the gay guy than anything else, the way Riemelt’s character acts is downright crazy and the casting… well this combination is kind of cliche when you consider what country this is coming from. I have seen this done before and done better if you ask me.

Have to agree about the ending, but then again, maybe it left it nicely to our imaginations!
I’m sure in all our dreams Marc & Kay do eventually reconcile.

  • Baggiebod

Have to disagree. Kay knew nothing of Marc’s family when they first met, and by the time he did, it was too late.
Love is a powerful drug! Lol!
    Loved the film.

  • Andre

What love? They talked a few sentences, then we got a scene of them running and then Kay suddenly grabs Marc’s dick. The end.
You know the whole family thing might have worked out better if these two had known more than their names about each other.
