Fran Drescher: “I Was Married To Gay Man”

She may have worked in a bridal shop in Flushing, Queens, but the former “The Nanny” star had no idea she had been sleeping with one. Though Fran Drescher and Peter Marc Jacobson are no longer married- they divorced in 1999- the couple were married for more than 21 years. Two years after their divorce, Jacobson came out to the the 52-year-old funny lady. Since then, the two have remained the best of friends. Here’s what Drescher said:

“Peter and I met when we were 15. We were just kids and didn’t know who we truly were. We went through a lot together . . . Peter and I feel so blessed to have met each other and to still have a caring, loving relationship. Love is what we’re all about.”

The former lovers are now collaborating on a sitcom based on their relationship. It wouldn’t be the first time. They often worked together on numerous projects during their marriage, including the monster hit, “The Nanny“. That sitcom launched the nasally actress to pop culture status and garnered her two Emmy nominations. But all was not rosy for the couple. As described in Drescher’s book “Enter Whining“, Fran was raped by two armed robbers at her home while her husband was tied up and forced to watch the horrendous crime. I can’t even begin to imagine how traumatizing that could’ve been.

Hopefully their new show gets picked up, I have no doubt it’ll be hilarballs. It’s so awesome that Fran isn’t at all bitter about being married to a big ol’ MO, and can make fun of the situation. As if “Nanny Fine” wasn’t a big enough gay icon, being married to a gay man makes her the ultimate hag, no?
