Florence + the Machine are certainly in a giving mood this week. On the heels of “How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful,” the English rock band debuts the official lead cut off their third upcoming studio album.
While the track they premiered earlier this week was mostly instrumental, “What Kind Of Man” is everything you’d expect and had hoped for from Florence and company. It starts off with a pseudo a cappella intro before kicking into high gear with a killer beat and Florence’s signature wails. Forget Hozier, Welch takes us to church with this new offering. Simply triumphant.
Like their previous clip, this one is directed by Vincent Haycock and features mesmerizing choreography from Sia “Chandelier” creative mind Ryan Heffington. Check out the slightly NSFW video below. It features brief nudity.
“I guess although I’ve always dealt in fantasy and metaphor when I came to writing, that meant the songs this time were dealing much more in reality. Ceremonials was so fixated on death and water, and the idea of escape or transcendence through death, but the new album became about trying to learn how live, and how to love in the world rather than trying to escape from it. Which is frightening because I’m not hiding behind anything but it felt like something I had to do.” – Florence Welch regarding upcoming album
