You can definitely file this under, WTF?! Yesterday, sexy skydiver and BASE jumper Felix Baumgartner attempted the unthinkable with the help of Red Bull. His goal? Break the record for highest free fall by jumping out of a space capsule and plummeting towards the earth hoping to break the sound barrier. Is he insane?
The total distance of the drop? 128,000 feet. The thought of being that high and just dropping towards the earth gives me the heebee jeebees. Watching the video just makes my mouth drop. Literally, the moment the capsule’s door opens and he steps out and just begins to fall makes my stomach do a backflip. I could never.
24 miles above the earth, Felix hit Mach 1.24 breaking the sound barrier on his way down. If that number means nothing to you, he hit a speed of 1,342 kilometres per hour (834 mph). He was in free fall for 4 minutes and 19 seconds before puling his shoot and landing back on the ground quite gracefully in New Mexico. Wow!
What do you think of Felix’s jump? Sound off with your thoughts below.
