So what do you have in your wardrobe? Do you have the basics? Too many trendy pieces will leave you feeling like you have nothing to wear. Specially when pieces are too identifiable. The key is to be able to mix and match and limit your patterns and prints. Here are the Top 10 things you should already have in your wardrobe before even thinking about trendier pieces.
Dark Denim
Typically this pair should have very little to no distressing and not too much details. A nice dark indigo or black pair goes a long way and can take you from day to night. Over processed jeans are out… yes that means you’re TRs should probably be given a rest.
What else should you have in your wardrobe? Find out on the second part of the post. Click on each thumbnail for a larger view.
Fitted Polo T
We’re talking classics here like Lacoste would be a good investment and no DO NOT pop up your collar under any circumstance.
Basic Black T
This is like the “Little Black Dress” every woman should have. A basic black tee can be worn with almost everything and for almost any occasion depending on what you put together with it. V-Neck or Crew depending on what looks good on you.
Button Down Shirt
In either black or classic white can be worn casually with your dark denim or worn with a suit for a crisp formal look.
V-Neck Sweater
A great fitting cotton/silk blend goes a long way. You can throw this sweater over a long sleeved shirt for work or wear it with a contrast t-shirt or on it’s own for going out at night.
Gray Dress Trousers
A nice flat front wool trouser can take you from Spring through Fall and can be worn dressy or casual with a pair of sneakers and a tee.
Military Inspired Jacket
A black or gray short jacket with epaulets and subtle military details. My personal favourites are Energie & G-Star. Not heavy on the details but more subtle with epaulets in either leather or nylon.
Brown Brogue Leather Boots or Shoes
A classic brogue pattern in a saddle tan colour, on a sleek leather sole or rubber sole for comfort. Stay away from shoes with heavy treads that tend to look bulky.
Sunglasses
If you have to go with one pair, choose a classic such as the Rayban Wayfarer or an Aviator style. Both these styles can be worn formal or casual. Favourite brands are Dior Homme, Dolce & Gabbana and Diesel.
Watch
A classic chronograph watch will work for any kind of outfit because it looks more sophisticated and stylish than other types of watches. The Chanel J12 is exquisite.

Funny how the closet picture chosen to top the article is a woman’s. At first the colors could pass…but then the apple green purse catches your eye (the only spot of fun), then 2 more purses, then the skirts. Such a boring “set”. Are there no pictures of mens’ beautiful closets? Or of beautiful men’s closets?

I think sunglasses are a key factor for them.I will always prefer the Rayban glasses.
