Cue massive laugh track now. Absolutely hilarious. NBC just announced Jessica Simpson will be joining its new reality series, “Fashion Star” as the show’s mentor. The show will pit twelve aspiring designers as they compete for a multimillion-dollar contract to launch their own brand. Each week they’ll face challenges that will push them to further develop and expand their brands. I’m envisioning it to be “Project Runway” meets “The Next Great Restaurant“.
Considering the scope of the competition, Simpson addition doesn’t seem that out-of-place after all. The 30-year-old has been touted as a mini-mogul for her highly successful brand which includes nearly two-dozen products. It’s been said that it’s the most successful celebrity fashion line ever. Who knew? That being said, I would’ve appreciated her more in a judging capacity then taking on a mentoring role. How can you take the girl who mistook tuna for chicken seriously?
Joining Simpson on “Fashion Show” will be former supermodel Elle MacPherson. The Aussie was previously announced to host the new NBC show a few weeks ago. I absolutely love Elle and would watch anything she’s involved in. Here’s what her new boss said about her involvement in a previous release.
“Brands have become expressions of communities and statements of identity. Polo, Kate Spade, Uggs, Ray Ban and Victoria’s Secret are all great examples of brands that have popped and reflect an entire lifestyle beyond just articles of clothing. This country is overflowing with incredibly talented designers from all walks of life who are waiting to be discovered,” said Paul Telegdy, Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming, NBC and Universal Media Studios. “Who better to host then Elle Macpherson — her impeccable fashion sense and 30 years of experience building her eponymous brand are tremendous assets to the show and the designers.”
I love me some fashion and reality competitions, so you know I’ll be watching this show, even though Simpson is attached. Nothing personal, but Simpson kinda gives me gas. Another aspect of the show I’m looking forward to is the fact it’ll be taped in front of a studio audience and will feature music, dancers and models on a weekly basis. NBC is promising a “true spectacle“. Unfortch, the show’s debut date wasn’t revealed so who knows how long I’ll have to wait. Would you watch this show? Let me know below.
