The 2015-16 television season officially kicks off next week after the Primetime Emmys air on Sunday. What has the Twitterverse all buzzing? Wonder no more. Twitter has released data about the upcoming season.
The micro-blogging site reports 21 million tweets have been logged so far about fall TV debuts. That number represents a 34 percent increase from last year. Networks should be a little worried though about their new offerings. Twitter reveals that 90 percent of the conversation has revolved around returning series.
Topping the returnees list is Grey’s Anatomy. The medical drama catapulted to pole position with 2.2 million tweets after ranking 6th last year. I suppose killing off McDreamy was a wise move after all. Another long-running program scored the runner-up slot. Supernatural which is entering its 11th season notched 2.0 million tweets.
On the freshman list, Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Hotel beat the competition with 1.1 million. I’m a little dumbfounded why Twitter placed the FX anthology in the ‘New Shows’ category. Murphy’s other new offering Scream Queens landed in third with 247,000 tweets. More of a breakdown below.
I’m a little surprised Empire is nowhere to be found. Is the FOX breakout hit in for a sophomore slump? For more stats, check out Twitter’s blog.
