The relationship status function on facebook is a severely abused and misunderstood function.  People really shouldn’t claim that they are in a “relationship” when they met some person at the bar two weeks ago, and are now totally in love.  A real relationship is something long-term and committed; if you’re not with someone for at least 6 months, then chances are you’re not in a relationship.  The likelihood that your flavour of the month is your soulmate is one in a million.  And the ensuing drama when the “relationship” inevitably ends and everyone sees it in your news feed is not worth it.  But maybe people are into that sort of attention?

Most people learn the lesson the hard way, so think carefully before you change your relationship status, because you may well end up regretting it.
