Back in 1981 Sam Raimi released The Evil Dead which raked in roughly $2.4 million during its entire run. The 2013 remake where he serves as producer did gangbusters and slayed its predecessor and the rest of the competition. Evil Dead starring Jane Levy and Lou Taylor Pucci topped theaters this weekend with $26 million. The horror film did much better than pre-weekend forecasts.

The only other new major release this weekend came in fourth. The 3D rerelease of Jurassic Park earned a little over $18 million. Not too shabby considering the studio only spent $10 million to convert it. The dinosaur 3D flick did roughly a million more than Titanic 3D during the same weekend last year. The Croods and G.I. Joe: Retaliation tied in second place, both adding another $21.1 million to their totals. Check out the rest of the Top 10 below.
