Emma Stone Going Back To Her “Roots” For Spider-Man Reboot

The worst kept secret in Hollywood is now officially out of the bag. “Easy A” breakout star, Emma Stone, is now part of the cast for director Marc Webb’s “Spider-man” reboot. Many thought the comedic actress would be playing the red-haired Mary Jane Watson. WRONG. Instead, Stone will play Peter Parker’s other girlfriend, Gwen Stacy who happens to be a blond.

The “Spider-man” reboot plans on taking the franchise back to high-school. Before Parker hooked up with MJ, Gwen first stole his heart. Given Stone’s fiery locks, many believed she was a lock for MJ’s role. Meanwhile “Glee’s” Dianna Argon topped a short list of other contenders of Gwen’s part. Looks like Quinn isn’t leaving McKinley High anytime soon.

The chemistry between the new Spider-man, Andrew Garfield, and Emma Stone, was so magical, director Marc Webb said there was no contest when it came to casting the part. Imagine his surprise, when it was revealed Emma is actually a natural blond. Who knew? Here’s a statement Webb released:

“The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice. At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl… Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own.” – director Marc Webb

Now that Gwen’s part has been cast, I wonder who the producers will choose as their Mary Jane. Perhaps if the producers used copious amounts of soft lighting, Kirsten Dunst, can pass as a teenager again. Nah, not even the Oprah lenses can do that. Who’s your choice to play MJ in the reboot?
