Elton John just announced his retirement from touring. However, it’s going to be a drawn-out affair. His “farewell tour” will span three years and consist of over 300 dates. Gotta love an old stunt queen 🙂
“I’m not going to be touring anymore,” John told Anderson Cooper during a New York City event, “apart from the last tour, which is going to start in September.”
What can fans expect on his globe-spanning Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour? He teased, “It’s going to be the most produced, fantastic show that I’ve ever done.” He elaborated, “It’s a way of going out with a bang. I don’t want to go out with a whimper. I’m not a whimpery guy!”
“I’ve been touring since I was 17 with various bands,” John added. “I thought the time is right to say thank you to all my fans and say goodbye.”
Throughout his career, the 70-year-old legend has sold more than 350 million albums worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world. He has more than fifty Top 40 hits. His Princess Diana tribute “Candle in the Wind 1997” is the second-best-selling single of all time.
His retirement announcement comes on the heels of John ending his decade-long Las Vegas residency. Are you planning on checking out Sir Elton one last time? I am. Just gotta figure out which date.
