It’s Official. Elisabeth Hasselbeck Is Leaving The View

After months of speculation, it’s official. Elisabeth Hasselbeck is leaving her spot on The View after ten years. Nine years too long if you ask me. With Joy Behar announcing her departure back in March and Barbara Walters’ upcoming retirement, the long-running talk show will have a major facelift come September. Personally, I think it’s long overdue. With the ABC show dipping in ratings and CBS’ The Talk rising, something major needed to be done.

“We have had 10 wonderful years with Elisabeth, and she will now be swimming in new waters,” said Barbara Walters. “We will miss her and wish her everything good.”

If you’re in the minority and love Elisabeth, you only have one more day to enjoy her on The View. Wednesday, July 10 is her last day. Pretty quick deal if you ask me. IMHO, I think Hasselbeck was always on her way out despite Walters’ denial.

To save face, I think all parties involved waited til Hasselbeck secured a new job before announcing her departure. Speaking of her new gig, she’ll head over to FOX News and join the channel’s morning show, FOX & Friends. She takes over Gretchen Carlson who is getting her own afternoon show on the network.

“Elisabeth’s warm and engaging personality made her a star on The View,” said FOX News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes. “She has proven to be an excellent conversationalist, and I am certain she will make a great addition to our already successful morning franchise.”

If you’ve been following speculation, you’re well aware that Jenny McCarthy and Brooke Shields are the rumored frontrunners for Behar and Hasselbeck’s spots respectively. McCarthy, who recently fronted her own weekly late night talk show, is a great candidate. I always thought she works well in an ensemble environment, but can’t really hold her own show. Based on her show’s ratings, I was right. It received an average of 200,000 viewers throughout it’s Spring run. With regards to Shields, it’s been widely reported that Walters is a huge fan of the actress. I wouldn’t at all be surprised if both ladies were announced as replacements in the next few days.

Glad that Elisabeth is bidding adieu? Excited about McCarthy and/or Shields joining the show? Sound off below.

  • I like her on the View only because it would be boring and kind of pointless if everyone had the same belief core.

I agree with Josh – they need a republican. I don’t believe in most of their ideals – but they do serve up some good arguments and when they get shut down – it kinda feels good. Elisabeth tried and failed most attempts – and that’s why I liked her. She even came around on many topics (ie gay marriage) and some republicans did as well.

I wonder if Anne Coulter is even on a long list of possibles? Seems like an excellent gig for her.

Jenny McCarthey is extremely vocal about dangerous health ideas that are proven to be mistaken, most prominently that vaccines cause autism. I would definitely not recommend she be on the View as she would have a daily platform for these ideas.

With the majority of conservatives in America being female (roughly 62%), it makes sense that there would be a female conservative. Elizabeth had been an interesting choice 10 years ago, due to her youth and her celebrity status at the time not being directly related to politics.

I think a better choice for the “Youth Right” perspective would be someone like Meghan McCain. She is however busy being on reality tv as well, sooo…
