After months of speculation, it’s official. Elisabeth Hasselbeck is leaving her spot on The View after ten years. Nine years too long if you ask me. With Joy Behar announcing her departure back in March and Barbara Walters’ upcoming retirement, the long-running talk show will have a major facelift come September. Personally, I think it’s long overdue. With the ABC show dipping in ratings and CBS’ The Talk rising, something major needed to be done.

“We have had 10 wonderful years with Elisabeth, and she will now be swimming in new waters,” said Barbara Walters. “We will miss her and wish her everything good.”

If you’re in the minority and love Elisabeth, you only have one more day to enjoy her on The View. Wednesday, July 10 is her last day. Pretty quick deal if you ask me. IMHO, I think Hasselbeck was always on her way out despite Walters’ denial.

To save face, I think all parties involved waited til Hasselbeck secured a new job before announcing her departure. Speaking of her new gig, she’ll head over to FOX News and join the channel’s morning show, FOX & Friends. She takes over Gretchen Carlson who is getting her own afternoon show on the network.

“Elisabeth’s warm and engaging personality made her a star on The View,” said FOX News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes. “She has proven to be an excellent conversationalist, and I am certain she will make a great addition to our already successful morning franchise.”

If you’ve been following speculation, you’re well aware that Jenny McCarthy and Brooke Shields are the rumored frontrunners for Behar and Hasselbeck’s spots respectively. McCarthy, who recently fronted her own weekly late night talk show, is a great candidate. I always thought she works well in an ensemble environment, but can’t really hold her own show. Based on her show’s ratings, I was right. It received an average of 200,000 viewers throughout it’s Spring run. With regards to Shields, it’s been widely reported that Walters is a huge fan of the actress. I wouldn’t at all be surprised if both ladies were announced as replacements in the next few days.

Glad that Elisabeth is bidding adieu? Excited about McCarthy and/or Shields joining the show? Sound off below.
