Ed Sheeran Scores Biggest Album Debut In 2017 & Books ‘Game Of Thrones’ Gig

There’s no other way to put it. Ed Sheeran is on fiyah these days. “Shape Of You” has ruled the Billboard Hot 100 for weeks and the album it’s lifted off, has also skyrocketed to the top.

÷ debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. It earned 451,000 equivalent album units, 322,000 in traditional album sales, for the week ending March 10. That marks the biggest sales week for an album in 2017. It’s still early in the year, so don’t expect that number to hold up by the time the year ends. This marks the 26-year-old singer’s second album to take the No. 1 spot.

In other Sheeran-related news, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss announced at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas that the English singer-songwriter will appear on the hit HBO show’s seventh season. And you can all thank Maisie Williams for that. “For years we were trying to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie and this year we finally did it,” Benioff said.

Excited to see Sheeran head to Westeros? Game of Thrones returns on July 16 on HBO.
