Oh No. Oh He Didn’t Say That!?

Do you know Rep. Duncan Hunter? No, me neither thank god. I think his nose would’ve been broken by now because patience is not one of my key suits. But buddy here decided to go on NPR (Nation Public Radio) Tuesday to do a little hate-on any gays and lesbians in the military. After a year of talking about Don’t Ask Don’t Tell like it was going to go away finally, Hunter decided to speak his homophobic mind which was followed by a ridiculous thunderstorm of tweets. Surely this isn’t the first politician to do something along these lines right? So what was so special?

Okay, well maybe it was the fact that Duncan feels that changing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell will open up the military to “hermaphrodites” after that, which to him is just a ridiculous notion. Of course it is. Shocking.

So what exactly did he say?

“I think that its bad for the cohesiveness and the unity of the military units, especially those that are in close combat, that are in close quarters in country right now. Its not the time to do it. I think its – the military is not civilian life. And I think the folks who have been in the military that have been in these very close situations with each other, there has to be a special bond there. And I think that bond is broken if you open up the military to transgenders, to hermaphrodites, to gays and lesbians.”

See apparently having someone that either likes the same sex, or that has both sexes, will destabilize the military to catastrophic proportions, causing the entire U.S. military to fall apart. What kind of bond can two people that AREN’T straight and single sexed POSSIBLY have that would benefit the military unit’s cohesiveness?

He didn’t really stop there though. the best is yet to come.

“Yeah, I think that the majority of people in the military are they’re young kids. They usually have more conservative families, more conservative backgrounds and I think that it would go against their principles and it would frankly make everybody a little bit uneasy to be in these close situations, how you go into combat, you know, the shower situation, the bathroom situation, just, you know, very mundane details – things that we have men and women separated, you know, because we dont want to have that sexual distraction. That exists for the homosexual aspect of things, too.”

You know, all homosexuals are just penis penis penis all the time. It would just be TOO distracting! Not to mention he just spoke for EVERYONE’S values as if it was just a given. I mean I know we’re talking about America here, but even I give most American’s more credit than Duncan does apparently. Anyways I think I’ve wasted just about as much time as I can on this wind bag. American’s if you’re reading this, be aware that this guy is actually an elected official, VOTED IN. And be a little more careful with your votes, and know the enemy.

Haha, as serious as this topic is, I think I got more distracted by the poor grammar and punctuation. Sorry, Nic 🙁

Here the thing that kills me about D.A.D.T. we always hear politicians speaking on behalf of soldiers, and rarely if ever the opinions of soldiers themselves. Ever wondered why? Soldiers don’t have opinions…they follow orders. It’s a fundamental aspect that keeps the military operating effectively. Therefore if the D.A.D.T. policy was disbanded and each officer, commanding officer etc was told that judgement based on sexuality would result in suspension or expolsion from the United States armed forces there wouldn’t be an issue.
As a matter of fact one highly decorated soldier who WAS asked by the New York Times said
“Ironically, in this area the D.A.D.T. policy actually has a detrimental impact on the psychological health of its service members, forcing paranoia about being found out, cover-ups of the truth and a forced level of disingenuousness in the name of unit cohesion.”
Sooo at the end of the day D.A.D.T. is just a perfect example of homophobic politicians weakening their own military force and costing their own citizens (who are willing to risk their lives to serve their country) jobs.
But wait doesn’t Rep Duncan Hunter have in big blue letters on his website “Helping You”? California’s District 52… I hope your ashamed of yourselves.

  • I definitely appreciate Timothy’s shaming of the voters in the district this man is from. Too often do we blame the politician for his decisions but a LOT of the time the voters know exactly what they’re getting into when they blindly follow scared tactics by republicans on fox news tv ads… if your rep is doing something this atrocious then you need to look at yourself or your neighbours… then move to canada 😉

He’s a one note politician who represents an area that is heavily military and fairly conservative. All he EVER does is talk about the military, and that’s fine by his constituents cuz that’s their main issue. That’s why his presidential and later vice-presidential attempts floundered because he can’t talk about ANYTHING else. He’s a joke, and that’s coming from a pro-military, pretty conservative, Gay San Diego native like myself.
