Hallelujah, the Welsh goddess is back and she comes bearing gifts. Duffy’s 2008 debut album “Rockferry” was a massive hit around the world, lead by the enormous single “Mercy”. That album went to sell over 6.5 million units worldwide. I was one of those 6.5 mil who bought that album and I LOVED it. Nowadays, It’s very rare for me to listen to an entire album in its entirety. The recording industry is all about a singles market these days and most albums are packed with filler rubbish (smell me, I’m so British). “Syrup and Honey” and “Warwick Avenue” were two of my favorites.
In anticipation of the release of her sophomore album, “Endlessly“, on November 29, the official lead cut was just released. “Well Well Well” is the perfect track to signal her return to her fans. It’s in the same vein as “Mercy” with its catchy radio appeal, but with an edge. The track features a rhythm section by The Roots and gives the soulful track a bit of funk.
After first listening to “Well Well Well“, words can’t even express how excited I am for her new album to drop. If this is just a taste of things to come, I expect most of the tracks from “Endlessly” to receive major rotation in my library. I’m glad Duffy hasn’t deviated too far from her signature sound to a more contemporary sound. If it ain’t broke, then don’t try to fix it.
