Quick! Name as many out-and-proud gay country singers as you can. Done, already? Besides Chely Wright and Josey Greenwell, I can’t think of any others. Here’s your chance to make sure we have more LGBT representation in the country music genre. Drake Jensen’s new single, “Pancho & Lefty“, is one of three tracks vying for Country 103’s “Emerging Artist Showdown“. The Kamloops, BC radio station will announce the winner and debut the winning track on their Canadian Country Top 10 countdown. You have all week until Friday noon to vote. Let’s all get behind Jensen and make our voice heard. Click here to vote.
Born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, Drake Jensen has become a unique figure in the world of Country Music. He has become a voice for the LGBT Community and speaks through his music. Gaining fans who are rediscovering the genre and can now feel included in it, he touches the heart and soul of listeners through his rich, warm voice that tells not only the stories, but conveys deep, sincere emotions.
Drake recently recorded a cover of Tammy Wynette’s “Stand By Your Man” with RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 4 alum, Willam Belli. The two also filmed a video directed by LA director Michael Serrato. This song and video will add a new twist to the old classic. I can’t wait. Until we get our first look at that gem, check out the music video for Jensen’s cover of the Townes Van Zandt classic, “Pancho and Lefty” below.
