What in all Drag Queen hell is this all about AL & CHUCK?!?
The sponsors of RuPaul’s Drag Race and the organizers of The Drag Race cruise this December have a lot of explaining to do. Carnival Cruises has just issued a letter saying that if you’re coming on the Drag Race cruise you can’t come in drag. UM….WHAT?!?
Turns out that Al & Chuck haven’t chartered a boat or haven’t organized it to coincide with gay cruise, but have just tagged along on a regular cruise. The letter states that Carvinal is a family cruiseline with kids, and that Drag Race functions are PRIVATE functions, and only the performers are allowed to be in drag. This is unbelievable and I almost don’t even know how to respond, so I’m going to let Pandora Boxx do it…
“I was so excited to be a part of the Drag Stars at Sea Cruise and to meet so many of you in person and enjoy our time at sea together. It is so disheartening to myself and I know you too, to receive an email from Carnival Cruise Lines only a few days before that is, well, you can read it and decide for yourself. I, personally say let your freak flag fly. We should never be told how to dress, how to act and certainly ever be told not to be ourselves. Just know that we will still enjoy ourselves and party, even if it’s like 1920.”
In this day and age, who cares really? I hate to use the terms homophobia or bullying, but this is absolutely ridiculous. AL & CHUCK better have an explanation for this, and I’m sorry I would DEMAND my money back. I don’t know how the Drag Race bitches are contracted either, but I would abandon ship. This is not the look.
And to further this absolutely disgusting development, Al & Chuck have issues one of the most RIDICULOUS statements I have ever read in my entire life. Saying something along the lines of how Carnival has a no costume rule, and this amazing gem I pulled from their statement:
“Finally, Drag Stars At Sea is a cruise venue for you to meet the stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL. Just as you would not go in costume (other than on Halloween) to a club to see them perform, neither should you on the GLORY.” Read the rest HERE
As a continued supporter and main Drag Race Queen wrangler in Vancouver, I can tell you that 75% of the people who come to see the queens always dress up. For Sharon Needles, I would say 90% of the people dressed up. It’s what we do. These performers make people want to dress up, you have done these events before haven’t you? Like is this the first time you’ve ever done this?
My best friend and I were thinking of going on this cruise, and unfortunately we’re not because we would be in the most ridiculous outfits EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
Shame on Carnival, and shame on you Al & Chuck.
